Irrigation Day being celebrated today, the challenge is to provide facilities to still arable land

Kathmandu. Irrigation Day and the Foundation Day of Water Resources and Irrigation Department are being celebrated today by organizing various programs under the slogan 'Systematic use of water resources, help in building a prosperous country'. In 2009, the then government started irrigation of agricultural land by establishing canal department. The government has been celebrating Irrigation Day with reference to the same occasion. During the institutional development of irrigation, it was transformed into Irrigation Department in the year 2044 through Canal Department, Irrigation and Water Supply Department, Irrigation and Climate Science Department.
After the promulgation of the Constitution of Nepal in 2072, the Department of Water Resources and Irrigation was established in 2075 after abolishing the Department of Irrigation and the Department of Waterborne Disaster Management.
