The government is preparing to list 6 more mountains above 8,000 meters
Kathmandu - The government has initiated an initiative to list 6 more mountains of Nepal as separate mountains in the international list of mountains higher than 8000 meters in the world. On the occasion of the 2026 General Assembly of the World Mountaineering and Climbing Federation, the Government of Nepal has forwarded the proposal through the Nepal Mountaineering Association.
If this proposal gets international recognition, the number of mountains higher than 8,000 meters in the world will increase from 14 to 20, while the number of such mountains in Nepal alone will reach 14. Representatives, experts and stakeholders of mountain climbing federations of different countries of the world are participating in the general assembly which started yesterday in Kathmandu.
