Kathmandu. Martyr's Day is being celebrated across the country today by organizing various programs. This day is celebrated to commemorate the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the welfare of the country and people. This day is celebrated in memory of the four martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the establishment of democracy in Nepal, Dharmabhakt Mathema, Dasaratha Chandra Thakur, Gangalal Shrestha and Shukraraj Shastri and other martyrs.
They were sentenced to death by the then government for raising their voices against the Rana regime. Due to the sacrifice of those martyrs and the inspiration gained from it, the Jahanian Rana regime ended and democracy was established in Nepal.
Martyrs' Day is celebrated on 16th of January every year, various programs are being organized in memory of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the establishment and restoration of democracy and freedom of different eras.
