Nag Panchami festival is being celebrated today, how to avoid it? What is the method and significance?
Kathmandu. Nag Panchami, which is celebrated every year on Shravan Shukla Panchami, is being celebrated by Hindus all over the country with reverence and devotion. On this day, there is a tradition of worshiping the serpent deity by pasting images of snakes on the main doors of homes and offices.
After waking up early in the morning and taking a bath, after worshiping lamp, kalash and Ganesha, a picture of snake is pasted on the door of the house using cow dung. It is a religious belief that by offering curd, dubo, kush, vermilion and sandalwood to the snake map, there will be no fear of poisonous creatures like snakes and scorpions in the house throughout the year. Also, there is a popular belief that by worshiping the serpent in this way, one can avoid the fear of fire, cloud and lightning.
According to the scriptures, there is a law to worship eight serpents namely Ananta, Vasuki, Padma, Mahapadma, Takshak, Kulir, Karkat and Shankha. On the day of Nag Panchami, 'Nag Stotra' is recited and pictures of snakes are pasted.
