Study Report on the Kerung-Kathmandu Railway Prepared

Kathmandu. The long-awaited Kathmandu-Kerung cross-border electric railway connecting Nepal and China is set to have its feasibility study report submitted by the Chinese side within the next one and a half months. In a presentation organized a few days ago at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, the Chinese technical team informed that the report is in its final stage.
Nepali officials said that although the presentation covered the railway’s design and estimated cost, detailed discussions on the investment modality and construction process will take place only after the report is received.
During Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Nepal in 2019, an agreement was signed to prepare the detailed project report for this railway. Since then, Chinese technical experts, given a 42-month timeframe, have been carrying out field studies with financial and technical support from their own country. During the study, drones were also used to understand the geological and technical aspects of the proposed route. The feasibility study has identified the route from Kerung to Tokha in Kathmandu as the main section.
