Decision to reactivate meter interest complaint mechanism

Kathmandu. The government has issued a circular to reactivate the district-level mechanism for hearing and receiving complaints regarding meter interest. The Ministry of Home Affairs has decided to re-activate the District Level Mechanism Committee to hear and receive complaints related to unfair transaction metering. According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, it has been decided to reactivate the district-level mechanism in all 77 district administration offices, with representatives from the district police office's deputy superintendent of police or police inspector and representatives from the district public prosecutor's office under the coordination of the assistant chief district officer.

Earlier, three commissions were formed to receive and hear complaints related to meter badges. However, after the completion of the specified period, those commissions became inactive. Home Minister Omprakash Aryal has instructed the ministry and the agencies under it to form a district-level mechanism and make it active to resume the work of unfair transaction 9 meter bag 0 complaints and complaints which have been inactive after the term of the commission.

In a circular issued by the Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Prem Prasad Dahal, it is said, "As it is seen that in some districts, the commission becomes inactive after the term of office expires, it has been requested that the said district committee should be made to perform its work in a continuous and effective manner as per the decision."
On July 12, 2080, the Federal Parliament added Section 249A to the Criminal Code, 2074, making meter interest trading a criminal offense.
