Kathmandu. Rice has become expensive in the Nepali market. From the industry to the retail market, the price of rice has increased. Businessmen have said that the price of 25 kg bags of rice has increased from Rs 3 to Rs 400 in just two months.
According toindustrialists and businessmen, rice has become more expensive in the Nepali market due to changes in rice export policy by India, reduction in production due to seasonality and increase in the minimum support price of rice. Since Nepal is completely import-oriented, the price increase in the international market, especially in India, has a direct impact here. Vivor Agarwal, a member of the Nepal Rice, Oil and Dal Industry Association, says that India's policy has also affected the price of rice.
"Since there i not enough rice in our country, we are dependent on imports," said Agarwal, "now India has opened a rice export quota for Bangladesh as well. Due to the weather, the production of rice in India has decreased significantly this time, due to which the prices of rice and rice have increased rapidly."
