The hopeful leader of the old party is running away from the field, the old man in the party
Kathmandu. In old political parties, while the debates about generational transfer and leadership transfer are going on, in practice, the old party leaders are doing the same. In some parties, the old party chiefs have been re-established as party chiefs, while in some parties, new and hopeful faces have left the party and left the party in charge of the elders.
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who was in power at the time of Gen(G) uprising, has been established as the party leader since the convention. Although there has been a debate on the transfer of leadership within the UML, those who debated about the transfer of the leadership have been in the minority.
There was also a debate on the transfer of leadership in the then CPN Maoist Center led by Pushpa Kamal Dahal and the then CPN Unified Samajwadi led by Madhav Nepal. These leaders did not choose the option of re-election by going to the convention to settle the debate on transfer of leadership. They united the party and established themselves in the leadership by using the loophole provided by the law to avoid the convention.
In Nepali Congress, the largest party in the country, the young leaders who are advancing the debate on generational change have started to leave the field and run away. Congress General Minister Vishwa Prakash Sharma has announced that he will not contest the February 21 elections. Another General Minister Gagan Thapa has announced that he will contest the election only if there is a convention, otherwise he will not contest.
Along with the two Chief Ministers, Joint Chief Minister Badri Pandey has also announced that he will not contest the elections scheduled for February 21. He has said that he will not contest the elections to give opportunities to the new generation, but will start strengthening the party. After he said in the meeting of home district Bajura that he is not interested in contesting the election, the district also did not recommend his name as a candidate.
