Kathmandu. The 'Poetry and the Cup' program has been completed with the chief guest of the famous writer and multifaceted creator Sarubhakta. Poetry reading, literary interaction and in-depth discussion on contemporary Nepali poetry were held in Silato Cottage in Anamnagar.

Sarubhakta, who has contributed to various genres of literature including poetry, novels, stories, plays, memoirs and muktakas, shared his experiences of his creative journey in the program. He stated that poetry is not limited to a certain place or environment and held the opinion that poetry is found wherever he goes.

On this occasion, Sarubhakta recalled the 'Sarakshan Kavita Abhiyan' conducted in 2055 and went to Ranipauwa village of Muktinath and gathered the local chiefs and villagers and narrated the experiences gained while writing poetry on the spot. He pointed out the need to connect literature with society and expressed the opinion that poetry should be close to people's lives.

According to him, writing poetry that can be easily understood even by ordinary readers of the village is the need of the day rather than highly experimental and intellectual poetry. Mentioning that the poet can write intelligent and practical poetry if he wants to, but he can also create simple and easy-going works, he said that he was influenced by different styles of poetry.

During this, he discussed that he was influenced by poet Mohan Koirala's experimental poetry. He also expressed his opinion about the complexity of dimensional poetry promoted by Vairagi Kaila and Indra Bahadur Rai and its impact on Nepali literature. Referring to the fact that some of his poems were called complex by critics, Sarubhakta said that it was only a kind of commentary. Insisting that he writes simple, easy and reader-friendly poetry as well, he made a sarcastic comment on the fact that critics praise him as a good poet but at the same time introduce a 'complex poet'.

Commenting on contemporary poetry, he opined that some of the poems written now are becoming like stories and the separate identity of poetry is weakening. Expressing his concern about the trend of playing politics in the name of poetry and portraying only frustration and despair, he said that his creations are of a type that the reader can understand and assimilate.

In the event, Sarubhakta recited some muktaka including his famous composition 'Aslam Miyanko Sapna'. After listening to his presentation, the poets, writers and literature lovers present were mesmerized.

Poet Keshav Silwal, founder of 'Kavita and the Cup' and announcer Moktan Theba, also recited representative poems included in various works of Sarubhakta in the program. Selected poems were presented from the works 'Sarubhakta Ka Kavita', which includes works collected in anthologies like 'Chattan', 'Pidadesh', 'Ek Kilo Akshar', 'Other Time', 'Laboratory', 'Poet/Premi var Pagal', 'Canvas' and 'Shabdbimb'.

Matrika Pokharel, Ramgopal Ashutosh, Mithoch, Umesh Akinchan, Ramesh Poudel, Anubhav, Geeta Tripathi, Shakuntala Joshi and Sita Tumkheva were among those who recited poems. Similarly, poets Raju Uberkot and Sajna Gole also presented their works.

Literary writers Kumari Lama, Govind Giri Prerna and Naveen Singh Thakuri discussed about Sarubhakta's poetic journey, style and contribution by presenting a short presentation on Sarubhakta's poems that were recited. The program was conducted by poet Moktan Theba. The participants said that the event, which was held with a significant presence of literature lovers, created a meaningful debate about the condition, trend and future of contemporary Nepali poetry.
