Kathmandu. The deadly Nipah virus has emerged as a serious challenge to public health in neighboring India's West Bengal. Although this virus has been confirmed in the neighboring country of West Bengal in India, doctors say that there is a high risk of it in Nepal as well. The spokesperson of the Ministry of Health and Population, Dr. Prakash Budhathoki, informed that the risk of bats, bangurs and other animals are also in Nepal.
Considering its risk, the Ministry has taken precautions to prevent this virus from entering Nepal. According to Budhathoki, the airport, border crossings and health institutions are under surveillance and have been instructed to take samples of people with suspicious symptoms and test them. He informed that the Ministry is coordinating with the provincial and local levels to strengthen surveillance at the border crossings, keep health workers on alert and reduce potential risks.
