Meghalaya coal mine explosion incident: Three dead, one missing from same village in Khotang
Khotang. In an explosion in a coal mine in Meghalaya, India, three youths have lost their lives and one more has gone missing. It is said that two other people were seriously injured in the incident. 27-year-old Purniram Khapangi Magar, 24-year-old Surendra Khapangi Magar and 35-year-old Nar Bahadur Khapangi Magar of Bhanjyang in Barapokhari Rural Municipality 1 Barapokhari Salghari were killed in an explosion in an illegal coal mine operating in East Jaintia Hills in Meghalaya on January 22.
It has been reported that 50-year-old Ratna Rai of Jorkaphal, Halesi Tuwachung Municipality 5, Durchim, who was injured in an explosion while working in a coal mine, has gone missing. Rai, who went missing after the explosion, may have burned to death inside the coal mine.
According to the relatives of Bhojpur who have been living and working together in Meghalaya, the youth leader of Durchim Netra Vikram Raut said that the news of the explosion came when Ratna entered the coal mine. During the rescue process after the explosion, the dead bodies found inside the coal mine were charred and unrecognizable by the relatives who were living with them.
