Preparations for Chhath festival in Hetauda are in full swing, Rapti coast is decorated with twinkling lights
Look around. With the end of Tihar festival, preparations for Chhath festival are going on in full swing in Hetauda, the capital of Bagmati province. Aiming at the Chhath festival, which is celebrated as the main festival of the country along with Terai-Madhesh, the bank of Rapti river located in Hetauda sub-metropolitan city-1 is decorated with colorful and twinkling lights.
According to the United Madhesi Seva Samaj Nepal Chhath Puja Ceremony Committee, construction of tents is being done rapidly on the banks of the Rapti River so that the devotees can stay there. Besides, the cleaning and decoration work around the place of worship is also being completed.
According to the committee, colorful lights, welcome gates and auxiliary gates have been constructed from Rapti Road to Rapti Bridge in Hetauda market area. This festival, which is limited to Terai, is now being celebrated with equal enthusiasm in the hilly areas as well.
The organizers say that the number of people celebrating Chhath in Makwanpur is increasing every year and this has strengthened the harmony between the Madhesi and the hill communities. It is estimated that around 62,000 devotees will participate in Raptithat of Hetauda this year. Nandalal Das, secretary of United Madheshi Seva Samaj Nepal Makwanpur, informed that 35 pandals 20 feet wide and 650 feet long are being constructed for mass worship.
The fasting people have also started preparing the necessary materials for the Chhath festival. Sumitra Sah Haluvai, a resident of Hetauda-2, said that bananas, fruits, sweets, ginger, sugarcane, bamboo and clay materials are being bought as the main offerings of Chhath.
