Historic Free Trade Agreement between India and New Zealand
Kathmandu. A new chapter has started in the bilateral trade relations between India and New Zealand from Monday. The two countries have signed a historic free trade agreement. With the agreement, it is expected to bring radical changes in the fields of trade, investment and employment.
This important agreement was made official in the presence of Indian Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and his New Zealand counterpart Todd McLay. Which is considered as a big diplomatic and economic victory for the Indian economy and exporters in the world market. The most remarkable feature of this agreement is the speed of its construction. The talks that started on March 16, 2025 were completed within a short period of only nine months. With the implementation of the agreement, the tax imposed by New Zealand on Indian products will immediately be exempted by 100%, and the goods coming from New Zealand to India will not be taxed.
Currently, New Zealand is imposing 10 percent tax on about 450 items exported from India, now the export of Indian textiles, ready-made garments, leather industry, ceramics and vehicle parts will get a big boost. In return, India has also given a discount of 95 percent on goods coming from New Zealand.
