Four lakh people are being given medicine after the outbreak of elephantiasis
Surlahi. After confirmation of the re-emergence of 9 filariasis in 12 local levels of Sarlahi district, the health authorities have started a campaign to administer drugs. According to the District Health Office, Sarlahi, preparations have been made to administer medicines under special surveillance in the municipalities where there is a risk.
The World Health Organization and Epidemiology and Disease Control Division collected and tested samples in all 20 municipalities of Sarlahi last October. After testing, it was found that the elephant foot infection is still active in 12 municipalities in the southern region of the district, so it was decided to give medicine, the health office said.
28 out of 300 samples were tested in Balra Municipality, Ramnagar Rural Municipality, Dhankaul Rural Municipality, Basawaria Rural Municipality, Chakraghatta Rural Municipality, Godaita Municipality, Vishnu Rural Municipality, Kaudena Rural Municipality, Malangwa Municipality, Brahmpuri Rural Municipality, Parsa Rural Municipality and Haripurwa Municipality.
Among them, five were found to be actively infected in samples collected at night. In the remaining eight municipalities of the northern part of the district, the spread of the disease has been brought under control. Health workers and women health volunteers will be trained initially as part of the campaign. Then they will go to the house and give medicine. It is reported that the administration of medicine has started in Malangwa municipality since January 8th and training is continuing in other municipalities.
