Kathmandu. Biplava Adhikari, President of Nepal Drug Manufacturers Association, has claimed that Nepal can be self-sufficient in medicine within five years. Addressing a program on Nepal Pharma Expo and self-reliance in medicine, policy questions in Lalitpur on Tuesday, the official claimed to make Nepal self-sufficient within the next five years. But for that, he said, the Medicines Act made in the year 2035 should be amended.

"We are walking with import-oriented drug law, let's make the drug law people-oriented, the law made in 2035 could not work industry-friendly, the administration also failed to work, if we change the policy in the drug law, we can make Nepal self-sufficient in drug production within five years, we will produce 80 per cent of drugs," said the presiding officer. The presiding officer also said that efforts are being made to spread confusion that Nepal's medicines are of poor quality.
