Another historic record for Messi in the World Cup

Kathmandu. Argentina captain Lionel Messi has set another historic record in the FIFA World Cup. Messi became the first player in the history of the World Cup to score in eight consecutive matches by scoring a goal against Cape Verde in the round of 32 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Miami, USA.

In the 29th minute of the game, Messi scored to give the former champions Argentina an initial 1(0) lead. With this, his personal goal number in the World Cup has reached 20 and he has strengthened his record in the list of players with the most goals in the history of the World Cup.

According to the statistical organization "Apta", Messi has also become the first footballer to score at least seven goals in two different editions of the World Cup. He scored seven goals in the 2022 World Cup held in Qatar and has completed his seventh goal in the ongoing 2026 edition as well.
