Youth dies in police custody due to inter-caste marriage

Ramechhap. 22-year-old Srikrishna Vick of Jumledanda, Sunkosi Rural Municipality-3 of Sindhuli died in Khurkot police custody. According to the police, Vick, who has been in police custody since May 3, committed suicide by hanging his shorts in the ventilation of the detention room yesterday. At the time of the incident, Shri Krishna was alone in the detention cell.
Vick, who was living in Kathmandu and working as a driver, had a love marriage with a girl from Khotang on March 28 last year. Srikrishna was arrested in Kathmandu and handed over to the Khurkot police after the girl's family filed a rape complaint with the Kathmandu police saying that the girl was a 17-year-old girl. He was in Khurkot police custody since last Friday. Vick's family says that inter-caste marriage is the main reason for the complaint even though he is underage.
The police said that they found out that Srikrishna tried to commit suicide at around 6 pm yesterday. He was immediately taken to Sunkosi Community Hospital. From there he was taken to Sindhuli Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
