US imposes new sanctions after Iran starts charging tariffs in Strait of Hormuz
Kathmandu. The United States has announced new sanctions against the Iranian agency that collects fees from maritime traffic through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. With the aim of tightening the economic embargo and pressure on Tehran, the US Department of Finance on Wednesday put Iran's "Persian Gulf Strait Authority" on the sanctions list.
According to Washington, the banned Iranian agency is operating a mechanism to collect fees from cargo ships using the Strait of Hormuz, which is considered the lifeline of the world's energy supply. Through this new step, it is clear that the US is trying to stop Iran's increasing economic control over the waterways and make its economy more relaxed.
