Unimplemented Genji Report Repression Recurred: Genji Agua Hamal
Kathmandu. Ravi Kiran Hamal, the leader of the Genji movement, met with the Commissioner of the National Human Rights Commission, Lily Thapa, and discussed in detail the implementation of the commission's report on the Genji movement, the state of human rights and the state's accountability.
It is said that the conclusion of the discussion was that the recommendations of the report of the Genji movement prepared under the coordination of Commissioner Thapa could not be effectively implemented, and the expected improvement in the security mechanism was not brought about and as a result the repressive trend of the state was repeated.
During the discussion, the need for immediate implementation of the Commission's recommendations was expressed as an example of the incident in which four people died when the security agencies used deadly weapons in Sunsari and Sirah. After the meeting, Hamal said that the government should be committed to implementing the commission's report as a guide for state reform rather than limiting it as a formal document. He mentioned that it is the first responsibility of the state to ensure truth, justice and accountability in every case of human rights violation and expressed the opinion that the protection of citizens' lives and rights is the basis of democratic governance.
