Trump's warning to Iran: Do not elect a new Supreme Leader without asking me

Main News Image

Kathmandu. US President Donald Trump has warned Iran not to elect a new supreme leader without his involvement. Insisting that America's role in the selection of Iran's new leader is necessary, they have threatened that if they are chosen without being asked, it will only be a waste of time.  In an interview with Axios, Trump said, "If Iran selects a new supreme leader without the involvement of the United States, it will be meaningless."

During this, he also said that he did not accept that Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of the slain Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, was seen as a possible successor. He said, "If the new leader continues the policies of the old leadership, there may be another conflict between America and Iran in the coming year." Trump mentioned that America wants a leader who can bring peace and stability to Iran.  The post has been vacant since Israel and the US carried out a joint military strike on February 28 that killed Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
