Kathmandu. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of the Valley Traffic Police Office, Suresh Prasad Kafle, has said that even though there are more than two million vehicles operating in the Kathmandu Valley, the traffic police still have to manage the traffic hand-in-hand. In the 'Naima Mobility Dialogue' on 'Mobility: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow' organized on the occasion of Nepal Mobility Expo in Naima on Wednesday, he said that the traffic police is conducting various awareness programs for the management of vehicles operating on the road and to reduce accidents.

According to him, although the number of vehicles in the valley is high, the necessary resources and clear legal rights are not sufficient for traffic management. He said that there is a need to clearly define the rights and responsibilities of the traffic police. Although there is an understanding in the public mind that the traffic police should solve all the problems related to the road, legally, the rights of the traffic police are limited except to instruct them not to do wrong and to fine them if the rules are violated, he said.

'Traffic police is an agency that works on the basis of laws made by the government. Our aim is not to collect fines, but to protect everyone,' Kafle said, 'Our main goal is that no person gets into trouble due to road accidents.'
