Kathmandu. The second biggest Nepali festival, Yamapanchak, which starts from Kartik Krishna Trayodashi, is starting from today. Prof. Shambhu Prasad Dhakal, Chairman of Nepal Panchang Adjudicatory Development Committee, informed that it has been decided to celebrate Kaag Tihar today, which falls on Trayodashi at the time of sunrise in the morning.

"This decision has been taken according to the classical rules that Yamdeepdan should be started on the day of Trayodashi in the evening and Kaag Tihar should be celebrated on the day of Trayodashi in the morning," he said. There is a classical belief that if you donate Yamadeep on the occasion of Yamapanchak, you will be freed from Yamayatna. Dhantrayodashi Dhanteras festival is celebrated on Saturday itself. Yamdeep donation is done based on the number of family members. When offering Yamdeep, one should face south. There is a classical method of offering Yamadeepa from Kartik Krishna Trayodashi to Kartik Shukla Dwitiya i.e. the day of Bhaitika.  Dhanwantari Jayanti festival is also celebrated today.
The best weather for Bhaitika is at 11:39 am on October 6th. On Monday 3rd of October, Kukur Tihar and Lakshmi Puja were held in the evening with Narak bath in the morning. According to the committee, the decision regarding the festival has been made according to the scriptures, as Kattik Krishna Chaturdashi and then Aunshi Tithi will be held on Monday 3rd of October till 02.52 pm.

Dhakal, chairman of the committee, said that the bathing and donation on Aunsi Tithi should be done on Tuesday morning, October 4. According to the committee, the Aunshi Tithi is on 4th October in the afternoon till 04:29 PM. According to the classical method, Bhaipuja and Kijapuja called in Newari language will also be celebrated on Thursday 6th of October.
