Kathmandu. On the sixth day of Tihar, the second biggest festival of Nepali which is celebrated every year on the day of Kartik Shukla Dwiya, brothers are receiving Tika from their sisters. Today is also known as Yamadvitiya. Even though the festival, also known as Yama Panchak, lasts for five days, this year the date has been extended and fell on the sixth day, according to the Nepal Panchang Adjudicatory Development Committee.

Today, on the day of Lakshmi Puja, the lamp, Kalash and Ganesha are worshiped in the Ashtdal written on the original plate, Markandeya, Ashwatthama, Bali, Vyasa, Hanuman, Vibhishan, Kripacharya and Parashuram, Chiranjeevi, Chitragupta, Yamaraj, Yamuna and Dharmaraj, Ganapatyadi and Navagraha are also worshiped by sisters and brothers with streams of oil. According to the tradition, flowers are garlanded with saptarangi or pancharangi tika, makhamli, saipatri or Godavari.

It is a religious and social tradition that after tika, sisters give their brothers food such as walnuts, katus, masala and selroti, and brothers show their respect by giving clothes and dakshinas symbols of good luck to their sisters.
