Kathmandu. The government has made it clear that the Nepal Electricity Authority will also receive the benefits from the international transmission line to be built between Nepal and India. An agreement has been signed between Nepal and India for the construction of two more 400 kilovolt capacity international transmission lines between Inaruwa-Purnia and Dododhara-Bareli in joint investment.

The decision was taken in the 12th meeting of the Joint Board of Directors JAC and to implement the same decision, the 'Joint Venture' and 'Shareholders Agreement' regarding the establishment of a joint company between Nepal Electricity Authority and Power Grid Corporation of India Limited was recently completed.

According to the same agreement, the joint secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Sandeep Kumar Dev informed that the share of Nepal Electricity Authority will be 51 percent respectively in the joint company to be established in Nepal and India for the construction of the Nepali section and the Indian section of these two transmission lines.
Similarly, the authority's share in the transmission line to be built in the Indian section will be 49 percent. Joint Secretary Dev mentioned that the authority has done 'capacity booking' on that transmission line.

So far, the authority has signed an electricity purchase and sale agreement with a capacity of 11,433 megawatts. Among the applications received for the purchase and sale of electricity equal to 12 thousand 646 megawatts, the grid connection agreement of 5 thousand 230 megawatts has been completed.
The ministry has clarified that the power purchase and sale agreement has been completed and the construction of the international transmission line has been prioritized to ensure the market for the electricity produced by the power project for which applications have been submitted for power purchase and sale.

Currently Dhalkewar-Muzaffarpur 400 kilovolt capacity inland electricity transmission line is operating. Similarly, the New Butwal-Gorakhpur kilovolt capacity international electricity transmission line is under construction. The construction of the transmission line will be completed in 2026.
