Rejection of federal decision: Schools will open on Sundays in Kankasundari rural municipality

Main News Image

Kathmandu. Kanakasundari Rural Municipality of Jumla has implemented its own new rules regarding school operations, reversing two important decisions of the federal government. The rural municipality has decided to start regular teaching from 7th Baisakh, ignoring the Sunday public holiday set by the federal government.

According to Acting Village Chairman Premkali Budha, the village executive meeting held on Sunday decided not to have Sundays off in public schools and to conduct classes ahead of schedule. The federal government had decided to start the recruitment campaign from May 15 and start teaching only from May 21 and to give two days of the week, Saturday and Sunday, as public holidays.

The rural municipality has concluded that the federal decision is impractical due to the geographical and climatic adversities of the Himalayan district. Jumla schools have a total of 45 days of winter vacation in the months of January and January, so it will be difficult to complete the curriculum prescribed by the federal government's vacation policy, according to the rural municipality. It is mentioned in the notification that this decision was taken according to the local needs to ensure the learning achievement of the students.
