Dhorpatan. This year, Baglung has produced oranges worth Rs. 269 million. With the increase in the interest of farmers towards orange cultivation, the production has increased. Compared to last year, oranges worth Rs 44 lakh more have been produced this year. This year, production has increased due to the absence of the pest problem. According to Krishi Gyan Kendra, last year orange production was worth Rs. 264.6 million.

Kumarpun Magar, head of Gyan Kendra, informed that the annual production has started to increase after the farmers started cultivating Santala in the barren fields. He says that good oranges are produced in the villages that have been left behind due to migration.

Chief Pun Magar said that instead of growing food crops such as pumpkin, corn and wheat, oranges have now been cultivated. He says that farmers are attracted to orange farming because good production can be done with less effort.

Pun Magar informed that 4 thousand 169 metric tons of oranges were produced this year. According to him, the farmers sell at a minimum price of Rs 65 per kg.

He said, "Recently, many farmers have been attracted to orange cultivation. Oranges have started to grow even on previously barren land. Every year, the area under orange cultivation is increasing. Millet, corn, wheat, and papar fields are now covered with orange plants. There is no much hassle, and because a lot can be produced with less effort, the attraction towards orange cultivation is increasing."

In the year 2076, oranges were cultivated in an area of 585 hectares, so far it has increased to 664 hectares. According to Gyan Kendra, oranges are now being produced in 381 hectares. More oranges are produced in Bihun of Kathekhola Rural Municipality, Sigana of Baglung Municipality, Tityang, Bhakunde, Binamare and Damek of Jaimini Municipality.

Pashupati Kandel, a farmer of Kathekhola Rural Municipality-6, said that last year he sold oranges worth Rs. He says that when there is timely rain for oranges, the production is good. Kandel, a farmer, says that last year, about 100,000 oranges were destroyed by the Ausa insect.
