Melamchi water stopped completely

Main News Image

Kathmandu. A group of committees including vendors, Melamchi flood victims and others have stopped the transfer of Melamchi water supply to Kathmandu saying that their demands have not been met. Jagarnath Das, executive director of the Melamchi Water Supply Development Committee, informed that on Thursday, local residents in the spring area under the Melamchi Water Supply Project stopped the water to be diverted to Kathmandu.

He said, "Locals have closed the spring today demanding the implementation of the agreement made with the then water supply minister Pradeep Yadav. After the closure of the spring, the Melamchi water coming to Kathmandu has been completely stopped since Thursday afternoon."

Local residents have turned off the water because the demands of other victims including the flood victims of 2078 have not been met. The water supply to Melamchi, which was closed last June after the rains started, was started from last October 26.
