Kathmandu. A grand fair is being held today on the occasion of New Year 2083 at Salhesh Phulbari, a famous historical and religious place of Siraha. Devotees have been thronging since early this morning to see the rare Sunakhari flower, which is believed to bloom only on Baisakh 1 every year. Sunakhari flowers have been blooming on the haram tree in this flower garden of about nine bighas spread in Lahan Municipality-12 and 22 since this morning.
Thousands of devotees have come from various districts of Nepal as well as bordering Indian cities to see this flower, which is considered a symbol of love between the 14th century folk hero King Salhesh and his girlfriend Malini.
According to Dashmilal Chaudhary, Chairman of the Mela Management Committee, there is a long queue of worshipers at the temple since 4 am. There is a religious belief that by worshiping King Salhesh, who is considered to be the Ishtadev of the Paswan community of Terai, the mind will be satisfied, the childless will have children and they will be freed from various diseases.
