Humla Karnali 2nd hydropower project of 335 MW capacity will be built in Humla

Kathmandu. In Humla district, which is lagging behind in economic development, the necessary process for the construction of Humla Karnali second hydropower project with a total capacity of 335 megawatts has been advanced. At present, the work of environmental impact assessment EIA of the project has been carried forward. On the recommendation of the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, the Ministry of Forests and Environment has advanced the work of EIA. The project will be built by Ruru Hydropower Project.

The project is located in Kharpunath Rural Municipality and Sarkegad Rural Municipality of Humla.  The Ministry of Forests and Environment has already requested the EIA to provide necessary suggestions and advice through a public notice. A total of 47.13 hectares of land will be required for the construction of the project. According to the Environmental Protection Act, 2076, there has been a provision for environmental impact assessment for hydropower projects with a capacity of more than 50 megawatts under electricity production. Accordingly, the work of EIA has been carried forward and currently the Ministry is conducting necessary studies.

The project based on river flow is a major project of Karnali river basin. Humla, known as Bahremase Hime River, will be built in Karnali, so this project is considered important.
