Growing interest in hundred-leafed flower farming in Tanahun's Bhima: local production displacing imports
Damauli. In Bhimad municipality of Tanahun, the interest of farmers towards hundred-leaf flower farming is increasing rapidly. Since flowers are being produced commercially at the local level, the dependence on imported flowers during festivals is decreasing and the door to self-sufficiency is opening. However, the lack of cold storage facilities to keep the produced flowers fresh for a long time has worried the farmers.
Farmers in different places of Bhimad Municipality 5 and 6 are engaged in hundred-leaf flower cultivation especially targeting the festival of Tihar. The yellow and orange petals blooming in the local soil have not only decorated the farmer's fields, but have also shown a strong possibility that the demand for the festival can be fully met from the local produce.
Under Bhimad Municipality 6, Renu Thapa in Banghkuna of Bagtar, Januka Thapa and Badrinath Gaihre in Simbot Jalaudi and Balkrishna Gaihre in Rishing Patan have cultivated hundred leaf flower commercially. They have spread flower cultivation in the area of two plantations per person.
