Germany to send troops to strengthen Polish border

Main News Image

Kathmandu. Germany has decided to send a group of its troops to Poland to strengthen Poland's eastern border with Belarus and the Russian territory of Kaliningrad. Poland, a strong supporter of Ukraine in the fight against Moscow, announced plans to strengthen a long section of its border in May last year.

According to the spokesman of the Ministry of Defense in Berlin, the main responsibility of German soldiers in Poland will be engineering activities. This may include building fortifications, digging trenches, laying barbed wire or erecting tank obstacles. The German Ministry of Defense has clarified that the assistance provided by the German military will be limited to cable engineering activities.

Although the spokesperson did not specify the exact number of soldiers involved, it will be in the double digits. They are expected to participate in the project from the second quarter of 2026 to the end of 2027. The German spokesman said that there was no immediate threat to the soldiers from the military conflict and that parliamentary approval was not required for the deployment.
