Kathmandu. Chandra Prasad Dhakal, President of the Federation of Nepalese Industries and Commerce, has said that it is necessary to promote gender sensitive, sustainable and flexible tourism enterprises for the development of Nepal's tourism sector. Chairman Dhakal expressed this opinion while speaking at a high-level policy dialogue program on promoting gender-responsive, sustainable and uplifting tourism enterprises held in Kathmandu.

He said that the tourism sector in Nepal's economy has been an important base for job creation, foreign currency earning and local livelihood. He also said that women's entrepreneurship is being promoted through homestays and community-based tourism.

Tourism is the main base of Nepal's economy. Both internal and external tourism have contributed equally to the economic development of the country. However, domestic tourism is flourishing recently. It has helped greatly in creating jobs and making the local economy sustainable.'' he said.

Discussing the increasing participation of women in the tourism sector and the fact that it helps women to become self-reliant, President Dhakal informed that the Confederation of Industry and Commerce has made many policy reforms in the development of women's entrepreneurship and leadership development. He also informed that in order to increase the participation of women under the leadership of the federation, the federation has amended the constitution and taken initiatives to increase the participation of women.
