Drone attack on UN headquarters: 6 peacekeepers killed

Main News Image

Kathmandu. According to Sudanese officials, six UN peacekeepers were killed and seven others injured in a drone attack on a United Nations facility in Kadugli, the capital of South Kordofan state, on Saturday. The drone fired three missiles at the UN headquarters and a Bangladesh battalion, causing a UN storage facility to catch fire. All the dead and injured peacekeepers were members of the Bangladesh Battalion, which is part of the United Nations Interim Security Force deployed to Abyei, a disputed region between Sudan and South Sudan.

The Sudanese armed forces blamed the paramilitary Rapid Support Force for the attack, but the Rapid Support Force denied the claim. Sudan's Transitional Sovereign Council condemned the drone strike, calling it a serious violation of international humanitarian law and the security of UN facilities. Sudan has been mired in deadly conflict since April 15, 2023.
