China's national highway to Kerung opens, 16 dead and 546 missing

The Kathmandu. Chinese technical and rescue teams have stepped up efforts to reopen a major national highway leading to the port of Kerung in the Tibet Autonomous Region, which has been damaged by a flood caused by a glacier burst in the high mountainous region on the Nepal side.

Quoting the regional government, Chinese media reported that at least 16 people have died in the Kerung region due to floods, while 546 people are still missing. The floods have caused severe damage to various sections of the national highway G-216 leading to the port.

A large number of manpower and equipment have been mobilized for cleaning and construction of the damaged highway. More than 100 workers of China Railway Group Limited are working to prepare the gabion box by filling the stone in the Xinjiang village of Kerung County.
