President Paudel says that the Chhath festival will help to achieve lasting peace, good governance, development and prosperity. It is customary to celebrate this festival with pomp and joy by staying awake all night on the banks of rivers, ponds and Taltalaiyas, paying homage to the sun, water and earth, worshiping Chhathi Mata, worshiping and fasting.
There is a popular belief that observing the fast of Chhath in a proper manner will bring the desired results, the family will be well-being and all their sorrows and troubles will be removed and they will become auspicious. President Paudel has said, "Taking in the context that life is not possible on earth without the sun, celebrating this festival with body and mind, staying at the place where the water flows from Kattik Shukla Chaturthi to Saptami day and worshiping the rays of the setting and rising sun by giving milk to them, it seems that it will help people to show their responsibility towards nature and environmental awareness and family and social solidarity."
