Adoption of the implementation measurement report of the Children's Act
Kathmandu. The meeting of the Legislation Management Committee has passed the draft of the measurement report prepared on the implementation status of the Children Act, 2075. The meeting held on Thursday passed the report evaluating the implementation of provisions related to child participation included in the Act.
Chairperson of the committee, Tulsakumari Dahal, has informed that there has been extensive discussion on the subject of child participation in the Act and during this, the committee has directly discussed 17 programs in five provinces. She mentioned that the report would have been more effective if she had reached all the seven provinces and admitted that she could not consult with experts due to lack of time.
According to the practice established by the committee, Dahal said that the Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizens has also taken forward the matter of measuring the implementation of the Act every five years. She informed that since the ministry has prepared the draft of the bill and the process has progressed, the bill to amend the children's law will soon come to the parliament after the elections. The report shows that although there are positive efforts in implementing the constitutional and legal provisions of child participation, there is still a need for improvement in institutional strengthening, coordination and effective monitoring.
