58 days left for elections: Emphasis on effective implementation of code of conduct

Kathmandu. It has been emphasized that an effective mechanism should be built to control the challenges added to the implementation of the code of conduct by the use of information technology. In the first meeting of the Central Code of Conduct Monitoring Committee, it was emphasized that a special mechanism should be created to control false information, malicious expressions and misleading information during elections through social media and digital platforms.

The first meeting of the Central Code of Conduct Monitoring Committee established in accordance with the provisions of Section 26 of the Election Code of Conduct, 2082 emphasized the need for a special mechanism to implement the code of conduct effectively. Commission spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai informed that in the meeting chaired by the committee's coordinator and election commissioner Sagun Shamsher Jabara, Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari and Commissioner Dr. Janaki Kumari Tuladhar and other officials of the committee were present.

In the meeting, inter-agency cooperation for the effective compliance and implementation of the code of conduct, the role of the regulatory body prescribed by the prevailing law, the challenges of the implementation of the code of conduct and various aspects of control were discussed. The members participating in the meeting expressed the opinion that it would be appropriate to carry out awareness, promotional and punitive methods together for the effective implementation of the code of conduct.
