Surlahi. A four-point agreement has been reached between the farmers and the industrial side, who are on a dharna demanding the arrears of sugarcane sold to the Annapurna sugar industry in Dhankaul, Sarlahi. On the initiative of Chief District Officer Ramuraj Kadaria, an agreement was reached between both parties through a discussion held at the District Administration Office on Sunday. In the discussion, the industry promised to adopt measures to control the pollution seen in the crushing process of the current year. Similarly, the administration has informed that the industry has agreed to fully pay the remaining amount to the farmers after the sugar price was determined last year.

Similarly, the previous owner Rakesh Kumar Agarwal has agreed to pay the amount due to the farmers within one month and to facilitate the operation of the industry, both sides have agreed to create a supportive environment.

The farmers have been protesting since last Sunday with a lock on the main gate of the industry, demanding money for the sale of sugarcane. After the agreement, the sit-in was called off. According to the farmers, the industry has not paid the money for the sugarcane sold since the crushing season of 2071-072.

Despite repeated assurances from the industry, they claim that there is arrears amounting to around 97 million rupees.
