World Telecommunication and Information Society Day today, aiming to bridge the digital divide
Kathmandu. With the aim of bringing positive changes in society and economy through ICT and reducing digital inequality, 'World Telecommunication and Information Society Day' is being celebrated around the world on May 17.
The main emphasis of this day is to reduce the 'digital divide'. Digital divide refers to the disparity between people, communities or areas who have easy access to modern information technology such as the Internet, computers, and smartphones and those who are deprived of it.
This day advocates to reduce the digital divide, especially when citizens of urban areas are using internet and online services easily, people in remote villages are staying away from the use of technology, digital education and opportunities.
