World Mother Earth Day: A call for collective efforts for a sustainable future
Kathmandu. Calling for collective efforts for a sustainable future, today the World Mother Earth Day is being celebrated with various programs in different countries of the world. On the call of the United Nations, this day has been celebrated every year on April 22 since 2009.
This day has conveyed the message that collective effort is necessary to protect the earth and maintain environmental balance. The oceans are filling up with plastic waste and are becoming increasingly acidic. Millions of people have been affected by extreme temperatures, fires and floods.
According to the United Nations, around one million hectares of forest area is being destroyed every year. According to environmentalists, healthy ecosystems help protect humans from disease, while biodiversity controls the rapid spread of disease-causing microbes. Currently, it is estimated that about 1 million plant and animal species are at risk of extinction.
