UML in serious crisis due to protection of fugitive accused Pasang Sherpa
Kathmandu. Serious criminal cases such as polygamy, human trafficking, fraud and check bounce are pending against Pasang Sherpa, a central member of CPN-UML. Although the court has sentenced him to one year imprisonment and a fine of five thousand rupees in the case of polygamy, he has not yet paid the sentence.
It is being alleged that President KP Sharma Oli protected the fugitive accused who is facing such serious legal cases by making him participate in the party's high meeting. Keeping Sherpa in a powerful role within the party despite the ongoing cases and public complaints in the police and courts has become a serious question on UML's ethics, discipline and responsibility.
Some responsible leaders within the UML have demanded that the police administration conduct further investigations into the pending cases against Pasang Sherpa. They have requested the CIB Central Bureau of Investigation to bring out the truth about the human trafficking, fraud and check bounce cases going on against the Sherpas.
According to these leaders, protecting such controversial and criminally accused persons to protect the reputation and future of the party will be harmful for UML in the long run.
