Today is World Food Day, focus on ensuring food security through technology
30 October, Kathmandu. World Food Day is being celebrated today with various programs around the world. Celebrated every year on October 16, this day emphasizes the need to end hunger and malnutrition and ensure the availability of sufficient, safe and nutritious food for all.
The theme of World Food Day 2026 is 'Today's Innovation: Tomorrow's Nutrition'. This year's slogan conveys the message of ensuring food security for future generations by increasing the use of technology, data and innovation in agriculture and food systems.
The use of new technology has been considered as an important basis for improving the food system amid the growing population, climate change, natural disasters and challenges in food production and distribution. The message of the day is that the use of technology is necessary for increasing agricultural production, proper storage of food, improving the distribution system and expanding access to nutritious food.
World Food Day is celebrated to commemorate the founding of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). Established on October 16, 1945, FAO aims to promote global cooperation in the areas of hunger reduction, nutrition improvement and food security.
