It is believed that if you worship Saraswati on Vasant Panchami, your knowledge and wisdom will increase. Today, devotees throng Saraswati temples all over the country to worship. Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge with fair skin like the moon and holding a veena and a book in her hand, is called by the devotees by names like Bharti, Sharada, Hanshwahini, Jaganmata, Vagishwari, Kaumari, Vardayini, Buddhidatri, Brahmacharini, Chandraghanta and Bhubaneshwari.
