Kathmandu. The 76th National Democracy Day is being celebrated today with various programs across the country to commemorate the day when the Nepali people were freed from Jahanian Rana's rule and established democracy. February 7 is considered as a day of historical importance for Nepal and the Nepali people, the day when the Rana rule ended and the new era of democracy began due to the struggle and sacrifices of the Nepali people.

This day is celebrated on February 7th every year in honor of the glorious day when democracy was declared in the country by ending the autocratic rule through people's revolution. Through democracy on the foundation of democracy, the federal democratic republican governance system is now being practiced in the country. During the struggle for the establishment of democracy, Shukraraj Shastri, Dashrath Chand, Dharmabhakta Mathema and Gangalal Shrestha sacrificed their lives in January 1997.

After the merger of Nepali National Congress and Nepal Democratic Congress in 2006, the armed and decisive movement led by the founding leader of Nepali Congress, BP Koirala, established democracy in Nepal on February 7, 2007. After the declaration of the then King Tribhuvan, a government consisting of Rana and Congress was formed and democratic rule was established in Nepal.

On the occasion of Democracy Day, President Ramchandra Paudel is scheduled to participate in the program organized by the Main Ceremony Committee at Sainik Manch Tundikhel this morning. In the program, homage will be paid to the known and unknown martyrs who sacrificed their lives in various struggles for the establishment of democracy in the country. Prime Minister Sushila Karki is scheduled to address the Democracy Day ceremony. The government has declared a public holiday today on the occasion of Democracy Day.
