Kukur Tihar falls on the second day of Yamapanchak ie Diwali, but this year it falls on the third day due to the change in dates, according to the Nepal Panchang Adjudicatory Development Committee. Prof. Dr. Devmani Bhattarai, member of the committee and chairman of Valmiki Vidyapeeth Department of Theology, says Narak Chaturdashi and Kukur Tihar should be celebrated on the day when Chaturdashi falls on the sunrise period.
On the day of Kartik Krishna Chaturdashi, the dog was given a sweet dish, Shyam and Sabal, who live as gatekeepers at Yamraj's door, and the dog named Sabal leave the road when they go to Yamalok.
