Main News Image

Kathmandu. The Supreme Court has issued a mandate in the name of the government to formulate and implement the necessary regulations, standards and procedures for the medicinal, scientific and industrial use of cannabis within three months. Advocate Saroj Adhikari and Rigendra Giri of Nepal Firm Businessmen Association filed a writ against the office of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers.

The joint bench of Judge Dr. Nahkul Subedi and Til Prasad Shrestha dismissed the demand for complete decriminalization and recreational use of marijuana as the jurisdiction of the legislature, but issued a mandate to the government to make laws for medicinal and industrial purposes. The full text of the judgment passed by the Supreme Court on May 4, 2082 was made public only recently.
