Kathmandu. Supreme Court dismissed the petition demanding to stop the construction of hydropower project within the national park area. On November 3, the joint bench of Justice Tek Prasad Dhungana and Shantisingh Thapa dismissed the writ on the petition filed by the people including Sumpa Tamang on May 27, 2079, demanding to stop the 30 MW capacity Langtang River hydroelectric project, which Multi Energy Development Pvt.

Nirajan Pandey, the Assistant Spokesperson of the Supreme Court informed that with the dismissal of the writ, there is a possibility of creating an environment that will facilitate the construction of power projects in the National Park area. According to him, although the writ has been dismissed, its full text is yet to come.

Earlier, on 24th June 2079, the court also rejected the request for interim order. The project, which has been under construction for five years, has become controversial due to its environmental impact, wildlife protection and the interests of local communities. But now with the decision of the court, it is expected that the project and other infrastructure plans within the park will get long-term legal clarity.
