Kathmandu. As the main assembly hall of the new parliament building under construction could not be ready on time, the upcoming meetings of the House of Representatives will be conducted in the multi-purpose hall in the same premises. The federal parliament secretariat has made this alternative and temporary arrangement to avoid the shortage of meeting rooms created after the arson in the parliament building in Naya Baneshwar.

According to Secretariat spokesperson Ekram Giri, the government aims to hand over the main assembly hall by March 1, but since the construction work is not completed, the multi-purpose hall is going to be put into use in coordination with the Ministry of Urban Development and construction professionals. The swearing in of the newly elected MPs and some preliminary meetings of the Parliament will be held in this hall.

Currently, the construction work of the multi-purpose hall has reached its final stage and only some technical work is left, so there will be no hindrance to hold the meeting, Giri clarified. Meetings will be shifted there only after the main assembly hall is fully prepared. Similarly, the meeting of the National Assembly is currently being conducted in the old hall of the Agriculture Committee in the Singha Darbar complex.
