The government is sensitive to prevent human trafficking: Minister Shrestha
Morang. Federal Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens Shraddha Shrestha has said that the government is sensitive to prevent human trafficking as it is a serious crime. Inaugurating the two-day conference on 'Challenges of Human Trafficking and Exploitation in the Nepal-India Border Area' organized by the Ministry and Maiti Nepal on Thursday evening, she emphasized that the concerned agencies should increase their activity to prevent such heinous crime by establishing mutual coordination between the two countries.
Minister Shrestha promised that the ministry would do planned work for the immediate rescue and protection of those who have been trafficked. She informed that a procedure will be made immediately for the prevention of women trafficking and it will be implemented.
Anuradha Koirala, President of Maiti Nepal, informed that the organization has been working against human trafficking for the past 30 years, as well as raising public awareness, facilitating rescue and rehabilitation. Even now, girls are being trafficked due to illiteracy, unemployment and various temptations, she emphasized that the cooperation and coordination of all the society, organizations and government agencies is necessary to control it.
Nagesh Koirala, head of Biratnagar Metropolitan Municipality, mentioned that human trafficking is the main problem of Nepal and said that it can be prevented through mutual coordination.
