The campaign to remove encroached structures continues across the country

Kathmandu. A campaign has been conducted to remove illegally constructed structures on government and public lands across the country, including Kathmandu Valley. In the first phase, the government has started removing encroached houses and other structures in various risk areas of Kathmandu Valley from Saturday.

On Saturday, illegal structures were removed from the banks of the river in Thapathali, Sinamangal-Gairigaon and Shantinagar areas of Kathmandu. Similarly, today, with the help of security agencies including the Nepal Police and Armed Police Force Nepal, the government team is removing encroached structures on the Manohara River banks.

Januka Dhakal, Development Commissioner of Kathmandu Valley Development Authority, said that in the first phase, the settlements in risky areas will be removed and in the second phase, the landless will be identified and the settlements will be properly managed. The authority said that during the clearing of the encroached land, the initial details of the homeless citizens will be collected and accommodation arrangements will be made.
